Diving the Zenobia, Cyprus
Dive one (the plan)
We begin our first dive on the Zenobia by kitting up onboard the catamaran which
takes us to the dive site, the Queen Zenobia.
After a giant stride entry, we surface swim to the front of the boat , where the
main mooring line descends through the water to the middle of the top of the Zenobia
wreck.
We will descend along this line to the wreck, the top of which, sits at 18 metres.
Once you are comforatable, we then drop over the edge to have a look at the trucks.
The sea bed is at 42 metre but for most divers, our maximum depth on the Zenobia
will be 30 metres.
Obviously, this can vary depending on your scuba training, experience and diving
qualification level. However, the visibility is so clear and a lot of the trucks
are piled or hanging at around the 30 metre mark, that you don’t need to go to the
very bottom to see everything.
We swim over the trucks towards the Stern of the Zenobia ferry and through the back
doors. Beware of following the lines of the wreck at this point because you will
be going deeper if you do. We will be slowly ascending to 23 metres to have a look
at the Zenobia’s propellor. Look down, you can also clearly see the bottom propellor
on the seabed.
At this point, air and no decompression time depending, we will either ascend to
the top of the wreck and investigate the portholes and sea-life living on the side
of the Zenobia, or we will swim back around the back doors to visit the funnel and
doorways from the Zenobia’s deck..
We will swim back to the line, ascending slowly and completing a one minute safety
stop at 9 metre and a five minute safety stop at 5 metres, exiting the water via
a ladder at the rear of the Queen Zenobia catamaran.
This completes the first dive on the Zenobia. Now we take a nice 2 hour surface
interval on the sun deck upstairs, and prepare ourselves for Dive Two!!
