Cyprus is the gateway the the middle east. For centuries she has been used by other
nations as a highly strategical base in world politics etc.
Now, Cyprus is better known as a beautiful sun paradise and cultural cross roads.
Over the years, as the continental plates of the Earth have shifted, a gulf opened
up between Africa and Europe, creating a small passage called the Suez Canal. This
allowed the Indian Ocean to merge with the Mediterranean Sea and formed a new body
of water called the Red Sea.
To this day, scuba divers flock to the Red Sea to admire the beauty of its underwater
coral reefs and aquatic life.

The Canary Islands have long been known for their year round sun but those scuba
divers who have been to Lanzarote know that the real treasure lies beneath the ocean.
Lying in the Atlantic Ocean, Lanzarote boasts an abundance of aquatic life from the
lowly sand eels to magnificent angel sharks and eagle rays.

Scuba Diving in Cyprus is an adventure not to be missed. For learning to dive, the
conditions and temperatures, make it easier than anywhere else. However, for the
more adventurous divers, we have the shipwreck of the Zenobia. Time and time again
this wreck has appeared in the top five diveable wrecks
2009 has seen the sinking of the Liberty Shipwreck in the protaras region of Cyprus,
creating an artificial reef for divers.
With plans from the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) to sink several other wrecks
around the island over the coming years and the planned creation of no-fish zones
to encourage the growth of marine life, it is easy to see why Cyprus is fast becoming
the hottest destination for scuba divers.
